A Slovak national was apprehended in Thailand, where he tried to hide to escape jail time for raping his own daughter, TASR learnt from Police Corps Presidium spokesperson Andrea Dobiášová on Tuesday.
“The individual was found and arrested in close co-operation with Interpol Bratislava National Centre and Thai police. The operation lasted approximately three weeks”, claimed Dobiášová. Jozef Polonec, 49, was sentenced in March 2012 by Žilina Regional Court to 13.5 years in jail for raping his underage daughter. When found in Thailand, he tried to deny his identity and told police that his name was John. This proved to no avail, however, as police used his photographs to identify him. "Later, he confessed that his name is Jozef Polonec, after his driving licence in that name was secured," said the spokesperson. Slovak authorities will attempt to have the convict extradited back to Slovakia.
