On Thursday morning, President Zuzana Čaputová appointed the remaining judges of the Constitutional Court. These are Ladislav Duditš, Libor Duľa, Peter Straka, Rastislav Kaššák, Miloš Maďar and Martin Vernarský. The Constitutional Court has not been functioning properly since mid-February this year. More than 1,400 files are pending and more than 1,000 files have still not been assigned to any judge. Zuzana Čaputová hopes the new constitutional judges will contribute to creating a more credible face for the justice system in Slovakia. "Even more because you, the judges, are the only ones who have the option of adjusting the mirror of justice without anyone accusing you of interfering with its independence," said the Slovak president in her speech. She also reminded the newly appointed judges of the top judicial instant, that their decisions depend on whether Slovakia will be a sovereign state, with democratic principles and a rule of law.
