Slovakia makes progress in social work with children

Slovakia has made huge progress in the past years in the area of social work with children, Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD) stated on Tuesday while launching the Social Act of the Year event. According to Pellegrini, significant changes include the state refraining from placing children into ordinary orphanages, and the many measures adopted to enable children to stay with their parents. The measures include helping parents get out of a bad situation so that the state doesn't perceive itself compelled to take their children away. Pellegrini went on to say that the state will have to deal with the question of fair remuneration of the social workers involved in such efforts, whose salaries are currently among the lowest within the framework of public and state administration.
