National memory institute awards anti-communist resisters

The Nation's Memory Institute (UPN) awarded on Tuesday decrees of anti-Communist resistance veterans, letters of appreciation and medals to political prisoners and people who were persecuted by the Communist regime, as a sign of respect for defending the values of freedom and democracy during the time of no freedom. The institute has had the right to award people with the status of anti-Communist resistance member as of 2006, and has awarded it to more than 860 persons. "As this year marks 30 years since the Velvet Revolution it's important that such commemorative events take place," stated head of the Slovak Political Prisoners Confederation, Peter Sandtner.
