Head of Office for Health Care Supervision steps down

On Monday, Tomáš Haško, head of the Office for Health Care Supervision stepped down from his post. He thus reacted to Health Minister Andrea Kalavská's proposal that he should be fired after mistakes found in the process of licensing ambulance services. At the beginning of September, the SME daily broke the news of links between the tender winner, LSE-Life Star Emergency, and members of the selection committee. Last week, the Health Minister confirmed that the ministry had lodged a complaint and that the National Criminal Agency was looking into the case.

The Health Ministry announced that a legislative amendment is in the works to set out rules and guidelines for selection proceedings on emergency health services that will not "inspire any doubts regarding the legality or transparency of this process and will rule out any suspicions of the kind reported in recent days and weeks". Kalavská is expected to submit the motion to the House health-care committee at its autumn session.
