There are 78% of women working at Slovak elementary schools and high schools, according to Slovenská Sporiteľna bank analyst Lenka Buchláková. Thus, Slovakia ranked eighth in the EU in the number of women in the school system. Lithuania is the first with 87% followed by Latvia (85%) and Estonia, Bulgaria and Slovenia (all 83%). The EU average is at the level of 72%. Only 9% of EU teachers are 30 years old or younger and over one third (approximately 36%) is over 50. On the other hand, at Slovak universities, women make up only 45.8% of pedagogues.
