A freight train with 44 loaded containers from Xi'an, China arrived in southern Slovak town of Dunajská Streda on Thursday after a two-week journey. According to the Transport Ministry, if this service proves to be reliable, such trains should travel to Slovakia every week. "One advantage is that one such train serves several countries in our region and at the same time relieves the roads of lorries. Slovakia's transport capacity is far from fully utilised despite the fact that the route through our land is quick and safe," stated Transport Minister Árpád Érsek (Most-Híd). The train travelled through Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine, with the goods within the containers meant for customers in Slovakia, Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
