Karel Gott, the Czech Republic's most famous singer - who was also popular abroad, including among Slovaks - died shortly before midnight on Tuesday (October 1) at the age of 80, it was reported by Czech TV Nova on its website. The singer had announced in mid-September that he was suffering from acute leukaemia. Slovak musicians as well as politicians have offered their condolences and expressed their appreciation for Gott's long and rich career as a singer.
