Supreme Court judge and failed presidential candidate Štefan Harabin told a news conference on Tuesday that he is the election leader of a new political party called 'Homeland' ('Vlast' in Slovak). Harabin in his speech criticised nearly the entire current political establishment. He also said that he can imagine governing with anyone who would observe his agenda. At the same time, Štefan Harabin is a controversial former justice minister associated with former prime minister Vladimir Mečiar. After making his statements to the press, Harabin refused to answer any questions from journalists, such as who finances his party. Moreover, a new law that will take effect on October 15 will prevent judges from running either for the national or European Parliament. Thus Harabin will have to leave the bench in order to be able to run as a candidate for Parliament in 2020.
