Štefan Hamran, the commander of Lynx Commando, a Slovak police special task unit, was elected in Helsinki to be the new chairman of the ATLAS network, an association of 38 anti-terrorist police tactical units, it was reported on Tuesday. Hamran was elected unanimously to a four-year tenure. The ATLAS network had previously been chaired by the Netherlands, Germany and Austria. The Lynx Commando unit is known in Slovakia for conducting crackdowns against the alleged murderers of journalist Jan Kuciak, and the 'Pitovci' criminal gang.
