Anti-fascist protest to be held next to far-right meeting

A protest dubbed Trenčín Against Fascism is slated to be held in the centre of Trenčín on October 17, on the same day and only a few metres away from the venue of a gathering by the far-right People's Party Our Slovakia (LSNS), it was reported on Tuesday. Nearly 400 people have already confirmed they're planning to attend the protest, with another 1,300 showing interest in the event. The town of Trenčín had originally turned down the request of LSNS to hold a public gathering in the town, but the party of Marian Kotleba challenged the ban in court. Trenčín Regional Court decided that the ban violates the law and countermanded it. As both events will therefore be held on the same day, Trenčín has asked the town police to provide security and prevent conflicts, according to Trenčín spokesperson Erika Ságová.
