Several unnamed sources have confirmed for TASR press agency that the European Parliament's committee heads, as well as representatives of political factions within committees, have unanimously okayed Maroš Šefčovič's nomination for the post of European Commission vice-chair for interinstitutional relations and foresight. During the hearing MEPs called on him to submit a particular timetable for reducing red tape, bureaucracy and regulatory burdens on people and on small and medium-sized companies that are pillars of the EU's economy. A former top Slovak diplomat, Šefčovič has already been a member of the European Commission three times since 2009. This spring he was also a runner up in the Slovak presidential election, supported by the largest governing coalition party Smer SD.
