On Sunday, the three-time world champion from 2015, 2016, 2017, the Slovak road cyclist Peter Sagan finished fifth at the World Championships in Yorkshire, 43 seconds behind the winner Mads Pedersen of Denmark. The Italian Matteo Trentin came in second place, and the third was Swiss Stefan Küng. Sagan thus missed the opportunity to win a record-breaking fourth World Championship. "I'm not disappointed - that's a cycling race. I felt very good, I think, but I just missed the opportunity to be in the front [group]. I could've been in the front but I thought the race was going to come back for a sprint," said Sagan.
