Slovak Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment László Sólymos (Most-Híd) signed a treaty on Wednesday signaling Slovakia's first-ever contribution to the UN's Green Climate Fund, which falls under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. "Today, we can be proud that Slovakia is aware of its responsibility for the environment at the global level and will financially support the fight for a cleaner planet in developing countries," Sólymos said. Slovakia has committed to contributing $2 million (approximately €1.8 million) to the fund, which is one of the key global instruments for adapting to climate change in developing countries. Financial support going to developing countries for climate change projects is one of the commitments of the Paris Climate Agreement, which also obliges signatory countries, including Slovakia, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at home.
