The ruling SMER social democracy agreed with the opposition Christian Democrats on constitutional changes in the judiciary and the protection of marriage. Both parties will submit to Parliament a joint proposal for the amendment to the Constitution, which addresses both the areas.
It was signed by the Speaker of Parliament Pavol Paška and the head of the Christian Democrats deputy caucus Pavol Hrušovský on Friday, 28 February. Pavol Paška admits that the family in a traditional understanding might be endangered. “If one likes it or not, the institution of marriage between a man and a woman is the base stone for further social development. So if there is a public request for keeping it this way, we need to support it,” stated Paška, who believes that it is an important topic of the public concern.
