At the end of the year the Economy Ministry intends to launch subsidies for purchases of electric cars and hybrids. According to Economy Minister Peter Žiga €5 million has been earmarked for this purpose. An amount of €8,000 should be contributed towards the purchase of an electric vehicle costing up to €50,000 . When purchasing a plug-in hybrid, a €5,000 contribution is planned. Currently, there are approximately 1,100 electric cars in Slovakia, which is an insufficient number according to the ministry. According to estimates, these subsidies could increase the number by at least 600 new vehicles. The minister noted that the sum might be increased if people show interest.
