Environment Minister László Sólymos has expressed support for the global climate strike due to take place in four Slovak cities on Friday (September 20). Sólymos believes that the more people realise the impacts of the climate change, the easier it will be to take the necessary steps. "Climate change is not coming; climate change is already here. I personally appreciate all initiatives pointing to this indisputable fact," stated the minister. Seventy-one NGOs, including the We Are Forest initiative, Amnesty International and Stop Corruption have supported the strike, as well as the top three scientific bodies in Slovakia - Comenius University, the Slovak Technical University and the Slovak Academy of Sciences. Trade unionists in Slovakia are also supporting the global climate strike and on 20 September will join citizens all over the world in the action. The climate strike organised by the Fridays for Future initiative will be held in Bratislava, Košice, Žilina and Banská Bystrica.
