Mead and honey beer are honey products that Slovakia excels in, as demonstrated at the international Beekeepers' Congress in Montreal, Canada. The event called Apimondia, which took place between September 8th and 12th, has seen Slovakia dominate in terms of the number of medals collected for its high quality products. Slovak beekeepers were awarded a total of 20 medals for products such as wax candles, various kinds of honey and related goods, and combinations of honey with other food. Placed behind Slovakia were Russia with 13 medals and the United States with 7.
