The European Commission (EC) will launch an investigation into the Slovak Food Code and the law on unfair conditions in food trade, based on two complaints filed in the summer by the Slovak Alliance for Modern Trade - an association of foreign retail chains such as Lidl, Kaufland, Tesco, Billa, Metro, etc. - and by the Slovak Association for Brand Products. "The Agriculture Ministry did not receive any information from the European Commission proving a conflict of the above provisions with European legislation," a spokesman for the department, Vladimir Machalik, said on Monday.
