No-confidence motion in PM next week

Not enough Slovak Parliament members were present on Friday morning to constitute a quorum and thus to be able to open a plenary session to discuss a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini. Parliamentary Chairman Andrej Danko said that another attempt would take place in half an hour, but the situation did not change. Danko therefore postponed the session for Monday, September 9. The no-confidence motion was initiated by the Opposition in response to Pellegrini's inaction vis-a-vis the former's demands to remove deputy justice minister Monika Jankovska over her alleged contacts with Marian Kocner, charged with ordering the murder of journalist Jan Kuciak last year. Jankovska has now resigned from her post.
