President Zuzana Čaputová has granted a pardon to a 48-year-old man due to the fact that his two sons are gravely ill, Henrieta Hajtová of President's Office press department stated on Wednesday. The man, pressured by other persons, took out a loan in 2005 and defaulted on the credit repayment. He was later found guilty and sentenced to two years in prison. According to Hajtová the family is currently dependent on help from its relatives, a school, a local authority and an NGO. "The man is a father of four. Two of his sons aged 14 and 20 are severely handicapped and suffer from serious mental disorders. The man's wife provides them 24-hour support and care, however, she herself suffers from various diseases," clarified Hajtová. It's the first pardon that has been granted by the president since she took office.
