On Sunday, Slovakia celebrated the 27th anniversary since the signature of its Constitution. On this occasion, Slovakia's Parliament was opened to the public. A programme was also prepared at the nearby Bratislava Castle, including a display of equipment used by the special police department for the protection of constitutional officials and diplomats, while folk ensembles and the Interior Ministry's band also showed off their skills.
On this occasion, the country's national flag was ceremonially raised on the tall flagpole that was erected in front of Parliament in summer. The flagpole has been the subject of controversial discussion - costing around €60,000, obtained from approximately 100 private donors. Urbanist Adrian Gubčo called it a shameful mistake, criticizing its looks, position and lack of relationship with its surroundings.
