The Košice-based waste management company Kosit wants to employ former U.S. Steel Košice workers after learning that around 700 employees of the steel producer have decided to voluntarily terminate their contract. Driver jobs which require the driving license for category C vehicles are on offer. It intends to retrain them if necessary and it will cover the costs for the exams which must be taken to obtain the license for those who pass them. "We estimate we could employ 30 to 50 people in the first wave," said Kosit's general manager Marian Christenko. U.S. Steel Košice stated in July that it would reduce the number of its employees by 2,500 by 2021.
