Slovakia needs to do everything in its power to help Ukraine, stated Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič on his official visit to Germany – where he has spent the past two days. Meetings of President Gašparovič and his German counterpart evolved around the economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries, but mostly stayed with the topic of Ukraine and the recent happenings there.
Gašparovič stated that Slovakia can help its eastern neighbour with charity or medical care, but will also discuss financial aid for the country. As Ukraine would need more than €25 billion for its reconstruction, the President stated that more negotiation needs to be done, adding that anytime such a big investment is to be made, the investor or the investing country must know the impact of that aid. Gašparovič clearly stated that the desired impact is for Ukraine to be in Europe.
