Eight people are interested in the post of Constitutional Court judge. Seven candidates have already applied for the post in previous elections. The deadline for submitting proposals for candidates will expire at 12 a.m. on August 26. MPs are supposed to elect Constitutional Court judges at the next parliamentary session starting on September 10. This will be the fifth such election. The coalition still has not agreed on the voting method. Smer-SD insists on a secret vote, while the Slovak National Party (SNS) and Most-Hid want a public one. In the elections so far lawmakers have failed to select the full number of candidates. So far, 14 candidates in total have been elected by Parliament, meaning that four are still missing in order to reach the full number of 18. The Constitutional Court currently has seven out of 13 judges. President Zuzana Caputova has said that she would appoint constitutional judges when she receives the full number of candidates.
