The Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) reported on Thursday that lightning had struck three tourists in the western High Tatra mountains on the same day, leading to the death of one person and injuries to the other two. The first lightning strike directly hit a couple of Czech tourists. The woman suffered a leg injury, while her companion was swept from Banikov mountain by the shock wave. Although a rescue team was able to treat and save the woman thanks to air support, the man who fell suffered injuries incompatible with life. The second case involved a group of Slovak tourists, one of whom was struck by lightning, which paralyzed him and rendered him unconscious for a brief moment. A rescue team tended to his injuries, and he was transported to hospital via helicopter.
