Angela Merkel asks for updates on journalist’s murder case

During her two-day official visit to Germany, Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Wednesday. In addition to the situation on the Slovak political scene, Merkel was also interested in the investigation into the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová. Čaputová told Merkel that in her opinion, the investigation was heading towards the identification and punishment of the perpetrators. In addition to cooperation between both countries, Merkel and Čaputová also addressed the topics of the European Union and Brexit. "The Chancellor [Angela Merkel], as well as the President [Frank-Walter Steinmeier], are betting on Slovakia and have great confidence in our country in the sense that we can play an important role in bringing our region closer to the rest of the European Union and building partnerships beyond our region," Zuzana Čaputová summarised her Wednesday meetings. On Thursday, she is giving an exclusive interview to the German magazine Der Spiegel and visiting the Stasi secret service museum in Berlin.
