The Head of the Financial department of the National Criminal Agency, Bernard Slobodník, stepped down from his post and left the police corps last week, after his name appeared in the leaked chats of controversial businessman Marián Kočner. Kočner is charged with ordering the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak. The Aktuality.sk website pointed to alleged links between Slobodník and Italian families running their businesses in southern Slovakia. Moreover, according to Aktuality, Kočner's former collaborator Peter Tóth, who is now one of the main witnesses in the Kuciak case, allegedly suggested that there was cooperation between Slobodník and Kočner.
