Between 2013 and 2017, Slovakia recorded the fastest growth in the number of registered personal vehicles in the EU, according to Eurostat. Slovakia with 18% was followed by the Czech Republic and Portugal with 17%, Estonia (15%) and Malta and Hungary (with 14%). In 2017, the highest number of cars per 1,000 people was registered in Luxembourg at 670, followed by Italy (625), Finland (617), Malta (613) and Cyprus (609). In the same year, the overall highest number of registered personal vehicles was in Germany (46 million), followed by Italy (37 million) and France (32 million).
