Heatwaves are forecast to hit western and southern Slovakia on Friday and Saturday (August 10), with temperatures set to climb to 35 degrees Celsius. The forecast has prompted the Slovak Hydrometeorological Office (SHMU) to issue a first-level heat alert. The warning is in place for some districts of Bratislava, Trnava and Nitra regions, where maximum air temperatures of 33 degrees Celsius are expected. On Saturday, the heat might be even more scorching, as some parts of Bratislava, Nitra and Trnava regions are to see 35 degrees Celsius. Also in effect the same day is a storm alert for districts in western and north western parts of the country.
