Slovakia wants to be a member of the UN Security Council

In 2028-2029 Slovakia wants to be one of the ten non-permanent members of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, which deals with threats to world peace and security. This stems from material submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the interdepartmental comments proceedings. The ten non-permanent members are elected to the most influential UN body for a two-year term, with half of them changing every year. The last time Slovakia was a member of the UN Security Council was in 2006-2007. According to the material, Slovakia is also considering submitting its candidacy to the UN Economic and Social Council for 2023-2025.
