Slovakia still lacks teachers

Slovakia is suffering from a lack of teachers, with the situation being most critical in the Bratislava region in the lower years of elementary schools and kindergartens, wrote the Education Ministry. This August, the edujob.sk website for teachers recorded 843 job offers, representing almost a 20% monthly growth. More than half of these offers were in Bratislava (483), where people with the qualifications to take up these positions have wide options in choosing jobs that are more lucrative. In the capital, schools mostly lack teachers of foreign languages and informatics. According to the ministry, the pedagogy faculties train many alumni every year, however, a large number of them do not even consider working as teachers. Between September 2016 and January 2020, salaries in the entire school system are set to gradually grow by 38%, with the aim of attracting more people.
