80 percent of Slovaks feel European, nevertheless 46 percent of them do not trust the European Union, according to the results of a Eurobarometer survey conducted in June in all 28 EU Member States and five candidate countries. In terms of Europe-wide results, confidence and optimism have been at their highest since 2014. Slovaks consider free movement and the common currency (41 percent ) and peace (40 percent) to be the most positive contribution of the European Union to their life. Slovaks still feel less confident in their national institutions as only 27 percent of those surveyed trust the Slovak Parliament and 29 percent of respondents trust the Government. When it comes to concrete domestic issues, Slovaks think their country is currently facing problems, in particular in terms of price increases and the cost of living (37 percent), health and social security (36 percent) and the economic situation (17 percent). On the question of what are the main issues the European Union is currently facing, Slovaks identified as challenges immigration (35 percent), terrorism (20 percent) and the state of public finances of the Member States (18 percent).
