Second case of African swine fever virus appears

A second case of the African swine fever virus in Slovakia has been diagnosed in the village of Veľký Kamenec, Košice region, reported the State Veterinary and Food Administration (SVPS) on Thursday. It is approximately 5.5 kilometres from the outbreak which was registered in Strážne last week. The SVPS clarified that this time only one pig was infected and that it was the only pig in the holding at the time of its death. The source of the infection has not yet been determined. The TASR press agency wrote that the rest of the pigs, namely 68, reared in 12 holdings should be slaughtered on Friday. The 3-kilometre protective zone and 10-kilometre supervision zone that has been set up around the first outbreak in Strážne will be now expanded to include Veľký Kamenec and nearby Malý Kamenec.
