Labour Ministry proposes minimum wage hike to €580

The minimum wage in 2020 will probably see a hike from €520 to €580 per month. On Wednesday, the Labour ministry proposed this sum to representatives of employers and employees, who, as in the past, failed to clinch a deal on the minimum wage this year. The Association of Industrial Unions stated on Wednesday that it considers the proposal of the Labour Ministry to be disproportionate, as prognoses for economic growth have worsened. "Prognoses clearly indicate the expected deterioration of the economic development. Higher salary costs for employers can reduce the volume of production in factories and can cause redundancies," noted the association. Furthermore, the association believes that those who are paid the minimum wage will not notice significant changes in how much money they have in their wallets. The tripartite [government, unions and employers] is slated to discuss the motion on August 19.
