The coalition Smer-SD party and the trade unions have agreed on another radical increase in the minimum wage, Smer-SD Chairman Robert Fico said at a press conference on Monday after meeting with head of the Slovak Trade Union Confederation (KOZ) Marián Magdoško. Fico stated that the increase for 2020 must be higher than the last one, outlining the possibility of the minimum wage being set by a formula embedded into legislation. The trade union president and Fico also agreed that the minimum wage should amount to 60 percent of the average earnings in the national economy, rather than being set to a specific amount. They hope to have a bill to this effect submitted to Parliament this autumn.
