European Commission vs Slovak passenger rail

The European Commission (EC) will not continue in its investigation of the passenger rail carrier ZSSK Slovensko relating to the inspection at the company's premises, the Commission reported on Thursday. Slovak passenger rail company's spokesman Tomas Kovac said that it welcomes the fact that the proceedings have been closed without finding a violation and imposing any sanction. On September 25, 2018, the European Commission sent a statement of objections to ZSSK. The Commission informed the Slovak provider about its preliminary view that the company had obstructed an inspection conducted in June 2016. Following a careful assessment of all the evidence, including ZSSK's reply to the statement of objections and an oral hearing, the Commission has decided not to further pursue the case.
