Serbs not to play for Slovan against Kosovan team

Two players and a coach of Serbian nationality will not take part in the UEFA Europa League match between the Slovak football team Slovan Bratislava and the Kosovan team KF Feronikeli taking place on Wednesday. "Players Dejan Dražič, Aleksandar Čavrič and coach Vladimír Radenkovič respected the request of the Serbian government not to participate in either of the two games against the Kosovan champion," said Tomáš Schügerl, spokesperson of Slovan Bratislava.

The Republic of Kosovo, formerly part of Serbia, declared its independence in 2008. As of 2019, 47% of the United Nations member states including Serbia and Slovakia have not recognised this state. Out of 28 EU members, five states have not recognised Kosovo so far.
