Budget spending grew too fast last year

Slovakia's budget expenses grew too fast last year and measures leading the budget back to a balanced performance should be adopted, according to the Council for Budget Responsibility, an independent watchdog. It calculated that the government should save €650 million this year in order to achieve a balanced budget. The Council has again presented a different opinion than the Finance Ministry, which, in connection with the 2018 performance, mentions just an insignificant deviation from a balanced budget and explains the differences between the two analyses as a difference in methodology.
