In the first three months of 2019, Slovakia registered 1.3 million domestic and foreign tourists visiting the country, representing a 10% year-on-year increase, indicate the Transport Ministry's data. According to Lenka Sprochová of the ministry's tourism department, the number of overnight stays, which was over 2 million, also grew. She is of the opinion that 2Q19 will see even bigger increases, given the fact that the World Ice Hockey Championship took place in the country in May.
Slovakia was mostly visited by Czechs, who were followed by Hungarians, Germans, Poles and Ukrainians. Sprochová said that the ministry has identified the most frequently visited locations - Bratislava, Kosice and the High Tatras and aims to present them as "flagships" at upcoming fairs and exhibitions.
