The number of inhabitants in Slovakia has increased by 37 percent over the past 60 years, however, the growth rate is declining, according to the Slovak Statistics Office. 5.4 million people live in Slovakia at present, and Slovak citizens living in their mother country make up 1 percent of the European Union's population.
