Recipients of military deed award meet president

The winners of the Military Deed of 2018 Award were received on Tuesday by President Zuzana Čaputová, who expressed her wish that as many members of the Slovak Armed Forces as possible would follow the example of her guests. The award was given to four soldiers. Lukáš Kucharčík was awarded in the Saving Human Life category for carrying a man away from a crashed and burning car that subsequently exploded. The Help to the Public category award went to Martin Majer for fund-raising on behalf of a children's faculty hospital in Banská Bystrica. The Friend of the Slovak Armed Forces award was granted to Pavol Honzek and the Club of Generals in Trencin. Honzek was nominated for renovating a military cemetery in Trenčín on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. An extraordinary award was presented to Ján Himpán, who when serving as the commander of an engineers' training centre in Sereď (Trnava region) began organising mass blood donations in 1993. He himself has donated blood 104 times.
