Selection process for top state jobs a ‘farce’

The selection process for executive management posts at state enterprises is only a formality and a farce at the moment, as these positions are filled strictly on the basis of political affiliation, stated non-parliamentary Together party chairman and independent MP Miroslav Beblavý at a press conference on Wednesday. At the same time, Beblavý praised the selection process employed by Bratislava for its city company management jobs as transparent, and declared he wants to use it also at a national level. The Together chairman conceded that selection proceedings can't guarantee that every selected manager will be an "angelic genius," but the mechanism guarantees a better process than the current "political and oligarchic manner of selection," he said. Bratislava Mayor Matúš Vallo has declared that the selection proceedings for Bratislava city companies were genuinely transparent. He added that if new heads of the companies fail to meet their targets, they will be dismissed.
