Last month was the hottest June in the history of meteorological measurements in Slovakia, according to the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ). Two significant heat waves hit Slovakia - from June 10th to 16t , and from June 24th to 27th. The temperature reached over 30°C in more than half the days of June. Records for the month of June were also registered by meteorologists in terms of the number of tropical nights, the most interesting being that tropical nights also occurred in the northern and north-eastern parts of Slovakia. Extreme heat was recorded in areas that belong to normally colder parts of Slovakia. The best example is the maximum daily temperature at Lomnicky peak in the High Tatra Mountains, which reached 26.5°C last Wednesday, the highest value since at least 1951.
