In 2018, Slovakia gave more than €117.5 million in development cooperation, representing 0.13 percent of its gross national income (GNI). Three quarters of its official development aid was spent in multilateral cooperation, namely through contributions to international organizations such as UNICEF or the UN. The country spent €28.26 million on bilateral development cooperation. Most funds of the official bilateral development and humanitarian aid went to Asia, followed by Europe and Africa. The OECD has recently called on Slovakia to develop a binding plan to increase its overseas development aid. The aim is to meet a commitment of spending each year 0.33 percent of its gross national income on official development assistance.
