Slovak defence minister meets outgoing US ambassador

The Slovak Minister of Defense, Peter Gajdoš met with outgoing US Ambassador Adam H. Sterling at a farewell meeting on Monday. Together, they spoke about the bilateral defense cooperation between the two countries to date. The most significant success of the cooperation so far was the intergovernmental contract for the acquisition of F-16 fighter aircraft. In the spring of 2019, the two parties experienced turmoil when the Slovak Defense ministry withdrew from talks on receiving financial help as part of the Defence Cooperation Agreement with the United States, claiming that the agreement would put Slovakia's sovereignty in jeopardy. At the time, ambassador Sterling pointed out that the USA has several defence cooperation or similar agreements in place around the world, including with many other NATO allies.
