Government approves Maroš Šefcovič as candidate for EC

The Government on Wednesday approved the nomination of Maroš Šefcovič as Slovakia's candidate for a post in the European Commission for the 2019-24 term. Šefcovič has been representing Slovakia in the Commission since 2009. He currently holds the post of European Commission vice-president for Energy Union. At the European Council meeting, which takes place this Thursday and Friday in Brussels, European leaders shall decide on the nominations for top positions in the EU institutions and adopt the Strategic Agenda for 2019 to 2024. Representing Slovakia at the meetings is PM Peter Pellegrini.
