Electric scooters to be regulated

Electric scooters used for riding on the sidewalks have become very dangerous. Interior Minister Denisa Saková (Smer-SD) said this in connection with an amendment to the Road Traffic Act. This Act, among other things, tightens the rules for using a scooter with auxiliary motors, which no longer fall into the pedestrian category but into the group of non-motor vehicles. According to the new legislation, one can ride such scooters only on bike lanes, not on the sidewalk. The Interior Ministry also acknowledged the demand from the cyclists' NGOs, who asked for helmets not being an obligation for cyclists older than 15 years riding on country roads. "We will, however, continue to encourage the safety of cyclists by advising them to use the helmet as much as possible," Saková added.
