Slovaks today have been applying ice to their hockey wounds following an agonising defeat by their long-time ice hockey rivals, the Czech Republic at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
The Slovak men’s ice hockey team ended their Olympic participation with a 5-3 loss to the Czech Republic in the play-off stage. The game was lost already in the first period with the Czech goals scored by Aleš Hemský, Roman Červenka and David Krejčí, to make it 3-0. The game was brought back to 4-3 in the third period, with two goals from Marián Hossa, and one from Tomáš Surový following on from another Červenka goal, but a last minute strike from Czech Tomáš Plekanec meant that the Sochi dream is over.
