An addition has been added to the rules on newly married couples being eligible to receive up to 75% of the value of their first home (although no more than €55,000).
Previously applicants needed to be under 35 years of age and earn no more than four times the subsistence minimum per household (currently €1,154). The new addition to the rules however means that wedded male applicants older than 35 years old will become eligible for the incentive, providing they have a baby. If the baby is over 3 years of age, they are not eligible. Vladimír Baláž, a behavioural economist from the Slovak Academy of Sciences says the news is good for young house-hunters who do not have a lot of money; however the news is not good for those who are unmarried. “A lot of people now live together outside of marriage”, says Baláž.
